We received a question in which I replied to but without much luck. The email address I received was faulty. However, I thought I would post the question and answer here. Hopefully, Diana, will see her question answered. Or, maybe this will help other's understanding as well. Please contact us with any questions you may need answered! Here is the question and answer:
Diana, thank you so much for the question, and am honored to answer your question. I am sorry you have had negative responses from other people. I cannot speak for their actions, but please know you will not have such a response from us.
Therefore, in response to your message from our Web site:
"Hello, and thank you for reading my question, I was a young teenager at the time, but graphfically remember the hideious sights of babies crammed into overflowing orphanages and lying, then dying in their own waste in Rumania. That was a direct cause of abortion being made illegal there.I'm still undecided where I stand on abortion,I wish nobody ever had to have one. But I see things like priests praying outside abortion clinics. I know so many young people who'd been placed into catholic care homes because they had no family, and weren't babies so weren't wanted for adoption. Tragically,I don't know of a single kid who,if not sexually abused themselves, didn't see other young kids being raped and abused by their 'carers' Ive yet to see priests praying for those kids.Their are so many unwanted kids growingup in terrible group homes and foster families. Not a day goes by when I don't read a terrible story of a child dying in an abusive home. Shouldn't we do something about thos! e vulnerable children first? Many prochoice friends of mine say you only care about the unborn, and not children. I've been called terrible things when I contacted a RTL organisation when I tried to talk about my feelings at a RTL group in NY, and to ask what they thought about my IUD.I was called terrible things,I was worse than Ted Bundy.I ranout crying,Thankyou,Diana."
Diana, your questions are sincere and many people hold those same questions. We, here at the Humphreys County Right to Life, have thought seriously about those questions, too. Let's together seriously address each one.
- According to wikipedia (see the story here):
"In 1957, the procedure was officially legalized in Romania, following which 80% of pregnancies ended in abortion, mainly due to the lack of effective contraception. In 1966 abortion was criminalized (except in exceptional cases) again, by Decree 770[5] under the rule of Nicolae Ceauşescu. The natalist policy was completed with mandatory gynecological revisions and penalizations for single women over 25 and married couples without children.[5]
The sudden effect of this policy was a transition from a birth rate of 14.3‰ in 1966 to 27.4‰ in 1967. Between 1972 and 1985, further degrees altered the minimum age for legal abortion.[5] The children born in this period, especially between 1966 and 1972, are nicknamed the decreţei (singular decreţel). They had to put up with crowded public services as the state was not ready for the sudden increase. The word decreţei has a negative nuance for the perceived mental and physical damage due to the risky pregnancies and failed illegal abortions.[6]
This policy was reversed in 1989, after the Romanian Revolution, and, since that time, abortion has been legal in Romania."
We realize that anytime a people are used to or accustomed to having something, when that is gone, highly negative consequences happen. In this case, it stated, the state was not ready for the sudden increase. They dramatically cut abortions off, and did not prepare. In a logical world, you would slowly eradicate abortion over time-except in cases of life and death-and make sure to prepare for an increase in other areas. This is true with anything, just not abortion. We know this and are working for a slow overturn of abortions. Totally hypothetical and not saying this would happen--if Social Security ran out of money, we would probably have a mass hysteria with many deaths due to starvation, malnutrition, etc. However, if the government decided to wean people off of Social Security, over time, people would necessarily learn to make due with there new situations. Of course, you would always have people continuing to suffer; however, that is where good people and churches come in to help take burdens away. Same is true with abortion. Let us learn to be responsible for our actions, and make due with our situations...The children should never suffer for the parents' mistakes. Can you honestly tell me which is more evil: A helpless, scared baby being brutally and painfully ripped to pieces and murdered inside his or her mother's womb, or a child starving to death, perhaps neglected and beaten? Both are reprehensible and both bring tears to my eyes. Everyone knows there is great evil in this world, and we cannot prevent all the evil. We cannot protect all the children from ever having been abused, neglected, starved, or murdered (by abortion or otherwise). However, we can try. We can be a beacon of hope.
· How can we be a beacon of hope? We support local pregnancy centers. These pregnancy centers help women with options, hope, and friendship. They are there for these scared moms throughout pregnancy and after. They provide monetary help at times, maternity clothes, baby clothes, baby formula, toys, everything for an expecting and new mother. If the mother chooses to adopt out her child, they can help her with that as well. During our annual Sanctity of Life service in Camden, we have learned the minister there also meets with women who've had abortions and can't live with their decisions. He knows how terrible this is affecting women, and the church there is making every effort to avoid this pain in women. During that service, the church offered any girl or woman scared and thinking about abortion, if she would keep the child, they would see to it that she had a home, they would pay for all hospital expenses, and help her in every aspect. If she decided to adopt that child out, they would see to it that someone would adopt that child. See, the more we come together, the more people are willing to help. THE MORE GOOD people are willing to help, and maybe they can weed out the bad people in foster care/orphanage situations. By the way, we also support local orphanages. There is a wonderful one in Tennessee, that changes it from a traditional orphanage to actually bringing in "House Parents" to live with these children and give them a more traditional home instead of an institution. They provide these children with stability and love and encouragement. Not only that, I know several people, our minister as well, that adopted children, not babies. Our minister adopted an 8, 10, and 13 year old. I am planning on adopting, and guarantee it will be a child not a baby. Not everyone wants to adopt just babies.
· Our chapter adopts a mother throughout the year anytime she needs help whether by monetary needs, rides, babysitting, clothes, food, etc.
· I cannot speak for those Catholics or terrible foster parents. Like I've said before, there is terrible evil in this world. We cannot stop that. We can, however, try... Is abortion better than a child, at least, having a chance at a loving, caring, wonderful life? There are stories of those who have been in the WORST case abusive families and loving their lives now. They go out and help others now. They have overturned their bad situations into something absolutely positive. Read about Gianna Jessen whose mother tried to abort her. Read about Amy Charlton whose mother tried to abort her. Read about Debra Luptak and Dave Pelzer who were some of the worst child abuse cases and clearly, almost monumentally, overcame that. Are they less worthy of life? They contribute just fine to life. Is it the ones who are aborted that possibly could have cured Aids or all Cancer? Is it just the ones who keep their babies that punish them? There are no statistics for this, and clearly, I believe every life is worth living. It is what we do with it that matters.
· Do statistics support, one way or the other, that mother's who chose life after wanting an abortion have children that grow up in terrible situations or better? Do they grow up to be good or bad people? They have the same chance as any other child. Those children that you speak of being raped, neglected, beaten, etc. were born of mothers who had an opportunity to have aborted them and not all of those had even one thought of aborting them. Have you asked your friends/acquaintances that were in these orphanages who were never adopted because they were children and not babies if they would have rather of been aborted or are happy to be alive even though their childhood was not great? Those people I mentioned earlier, and hope you read their stories, love their lives. My childhood was not great. But, thank the Father in heaven I'm alive, have beautiful children and a wonderful husband now. I thank Him that I didn't follow my parents' paths, but rather learned from them, and chose to follow a different path. That's just it, I FOLLOWED a different path. I was given that opportunity. I, being from a mother who got pregnant, unwed, but married the father just because she was pregnant and divorced him right after I left the house. I'm a product of an alcoholic father and drug using mother and neglected mostly. Should I have been aborted? Absolutely not! Just because I had a bad childhood doesn't mean I'm less of a person or can attribute less to society or even have less of a chance at a happy and fulfilling life.
· Who on earth has the power to decide who lives and who dies? Who has the power to decide who is more deserving to live and who is less deserving to die? Given any circumstances, do any and all fit that pattern or mold? i.e. does an underprivileged child grow up to be just that? Or do they have the same opportunities to do something great with their life? Does a privileged child grow up to be privileged or do they go a different direction at times? When society decides who lives and dies based on circumstances or what an individual can contribute to society or what problems that individual can place on society, then that very society can decide if grandma or grandpa or mentally handicapped or physically handicapped people should live or die. People are people no matter how small or large, place in which they reside, or attributes they give towards society. All are protected under the United States Constitution as having the RIGHT to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
· So, other than all these reasons, why be pro-life? We as a group believe that abortion not only brutally kills and rapes a child of his entire life, but also physically, mentally, and spiritually hurts the women that are having these done. We love the child AND the mother. We do not believe these women are monsters, but rather scared women with no support, nor given any options. That is what we are here for. We pray that others will stand with us. Pregnancy Centers operate solely on donated money and donated items. They offer their services completely free of charge. They are truly there to help. It's the ones who say they are there to help...for a price that you know can not be there to help. Help centers for food and clothing are there to help. They don't ask their clients to give them $300. How would that be helping? So, before I ramble anymore, we are here because we care so much about the women and babies.
· How does abortion hurt women? There are always complications in any surgery, and that is what an abortion is, but more. So along with the usual complications that goes with any surgery whether minor or major like death, infections, etc. Complications or risks specifically because of an abortion include: Breast Cancer, Uterine Perforations, cervical, ovarian, and liver cancer, placenta previa in later pregnancies, complications of future labor, handicapped newborns in later pregnancies, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, lower general health. Not only these physical problems have been attributed to abortions, but these mental complications: Suicidal thoughts, nightmares about their aborted children, depression, feelings of self worthlessness, and thoughts of inferiority of God's love, problems of not being able to have a truly meaningful relationship, etc. I know several women who've had abortions and are mentally and spiritually hurting because of their decisions. I can call these women my friends, and certainly remind them that God loves them and has forgiven them. We don't judge.
· We believe that God, the Creator, gives life, and should be the only one to take it. The Bible does not distinguish between unborn babies and newborn babies. The word brephos is a Greek word used in Luke 1:41 for the unborn John the Baptist, Luke 2:12 for the already born babies brought to Jesus, and Acts 7:19 for the newborn babies killed by Pharaoh. Therefore the Father hates all murder of innocent babies, unborn and born, and calls them abominations. Deuteronomy 12:31, Leviticus 20:2. Psalm 139:13-16 states our Father skillfully made us before anyone knew we were there. Even if we don't believe our pregnancy is at the right time or is a blessing, EVERY pregnancy is a gift from God according to Psalm 127:3-5. God tells us not to hurt the innocent in Proverbs 31:8. AND last but not least, God tells us to stand up for the unborn. Proverbs 31:8 states, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." This goes along with the mothers and babies. We have an obligation to help ALL, not choose which is first to help and then if that is eradicated, start helping the unborn.
· Please check around our web site at www.hcrighttolife.com for more information. I have even put links to opposing groups on our site, because God has blessed us with the ability to decipher truth from falsehood. You will see who is in it for the money; who is speaking truth; and who really cares about you. I am leaving this up to you to make your own decision. You certainly are searching that for asking such a great question. Thank you for the opportunity to express truth with you. If you would like brochures, more links, or movies to watch and learn or share with others, I would be thrilled to mail any information you would like. If you have any more questions, I would be more than willing to answer any and all with you. May God bless you on your journey to know truth.
· You are right we have to help the children, too. The unborn are the children. As far as the offenses to children, we believe in harsher punishments towards people who cause these offenses. We care, as it seems you do too. So, let's work together toward that goal, to help unborn and born and women alike! We all are called to help. If your calling is helping children, please do! We'll work together! God bless you for caring. Again, if there is anything I can help you with, let me know!
- As far as the IUD goes, I don't know many women who know exactly what an IUD does, therefore I could not call anyone any harsh names for using one. Do you believe they cause abortions to the fertilized eggs and that life begins at that moment of conception? That is a personal decision of yours, that is between you and the Creator. If you need information regarding IUDs and birth control, please visit: http://www.prolife.com/BIRTHCNT.html
I certainly hope I have helped your understanding, and look forward to hearing from you! May God bless you.

Yet, another, wonderful experience! Our neighbor's in Benton County are starting up their Sanctity of Life Celebrations! Praise our Father in heaven for this wonderful work that is growing from county to county!!
Our evening started with the Minister of Camden church of Christ, Mike Eaton, welcoming and affirming the Sanctity of Life! Tim Poskevich spoke of efforts of the Humphreys County Right to Life Chapter and encouraged everyone to become a part of a Benton County Chapter. We watched excerpts from the film "Blood Money", a MUST see! Shannon Dykstra, Director of Life Choices Pregnancy Center spoke of the Center's efforts and the different programs they offer helpless, and needy mothers. We witnessed a powerful and amazing play called "The Story of Hope" about the choices women are faced with and the voices of the unborn inside them. Bill Alsup of Tennessee Children's Home spoke of the efforts of their foster-care programs, orphanage, spiritual direction of the youth, adoption agency, etc. Then, an unamed woman, came forward and spoke of her abortion experience after being forced to have one 29 years ago by her parents. She told of her fears and distresses after her abortion. It was after 28 years, when she found peace by visiting a Sanctity of Life Celebration last year when she learned God can and has forgiven her. How truly sad, she held this secret for so long! How sad to know, she may not have ever received peace if it had not been for this special event--The Sanctity of Life Celebration! The evening concluded with a short devotional of scripture readings, prayer, invitation, and song. Following that was a great fellowship time with food and informational booths by the visiting charities.
If you happened to miss this one, you MUST visit one coming soon to a church near you! You don't know how many lives have been changed for the better or lives saved by supporting such a wonderful event as this!
